Additional Deputy Commissioner holds review meeting with officers of District Environment Committee

SAS Nagar, January 09, 2025: Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal held a review meeting of District Environment Committee with officers of various departments of the district to review the implementation of District Environment Plan. During the meeting, he discussed various matters related to compliance with the decisions of NGT Monitoring Committee meeting.

SAS Nagar, January 09, 2025: Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal held a review meeting of District Environment Committee with officers of various departments of the district to review the implementation of District Environment Plan. During the meeting, he discussed various matters related to compliance with the decisions of NGT Monitoring Committee meeting.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the status of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) installed by local bodies, GMADA, PSIEC and PWSSB and directed the concerned officers to follow the prescribed norms and ensure proper functioning of STPs. He directed to adhere to the timelines for setting up and upgradation of these projects.
He said that whatever work is required to be done to make these projects ready at the ground level should be done in a sustained manner. He said that the completion of the scheduled projects will not only lead to proper management of sewerage water but the treated water can be used for different purposes like irrigation in fields, sprinkling on roads and construction work of buildings.
Along with this, the performance of the plants with a capacity of 101.8 million liters per day present in the district was also reviewed. It was also asked to ensure continuous monitoring of ETP (Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant) installed by the industrial units along Ghaggar. He stressed the importance of renovation of ponds under the Sehewal model and Thapar model and directed the officials that at least one-fourth of the total cities should be updated as Thapar model. Anmol Singh Dhaliwal asked the officials of Municipal Corporation Mohali and Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats to take strict steps to prevent 'single use plastic' and ensure maximum checking in this regard, five challans should be issued every month and action should be taken as per the law.
He also reviewed the status of solid waste disposal in the meeting. The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that China Door is causing loss of life. Therefore, an appeal is made to the shopkeepers and children of the area not to use this deadly door. He told the EO and DDPO that keeping in mind the festivals of Lohri and Basant Panchami in the coming days, the sale of China Door should be stopped in the district, monitoring and checking of markets should be ensured by forming teams and strict action will be taken against those who violate the instructions.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner reviewed the purchase of vehicles and machinery to be purchased by the Municipal Corporation and Municipal Councils under Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 and directed that the certificate of utilization of the grant received for these, registration of these vehicles and detailed information about the drivers should be sent to his office. During this, the Additional Deputy Commissioner directed the officers to settle the pending works within the stipulated time. Apart from SDM Mohali Damandeep Kaur, executive officers of other departments were present in the meeting.
