Municipal Corporation alert after Sohana accident, survey reveals 97 buildings built as high-rises in violation of rules

SAS Nagar, December 24- The Municipal Corporation is in action after the death of two young children when the adjacent building collapsed due to the excavation of the basement in village Sohana. In the matter of unauthorized shops built in villages under the Municipal Corporation, Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu today held an emergency meeting with Mohali Municipal Corporation Commissioner T Benith and officials of the Building Branch as well as officials of the Fire Department.

In the matter of unauthorized shops built in villages under the Municipal Corporation, Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu today held an emergency meeting with Mohali Municipal Corporation Commissioner T Benith and officials of the Building Branch as well as officials of the Fire Department.
Senior Deputy Mayor Amrik Singh Somal was specially present in the meeting.
Giving information after the meeting, Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu said that there are only three-storey buildings in the villages, but many people have built multi-storey buildings in violation of the rules. He said that the survey has found 97 such buildings which have been built higher than three floors in violation of the rules.
He said that the entire team of the building branch including the municipal town planner is engaged in the survey. There are six villages under the Mohali Municipal Corporation, Sohana, Kumbra, Mataur, Shahi Majra, Madanpur and village Mohali. He said that in these villages, unauthorized buildings have been constructed not only inside Lal Dore but also outside Lal Dore, against which action will be taken.
He said that during the meeting, instructions have also been issued to the fire department officials to check the fire safety equipment of all the buildings constructed in the villages. Because in the event of any accident, there is the highest risk of fire, which can cause more damage. He said that the building branch has informed the meeting that a survey is underway in all the villages of Mohali. And the buildings whose construction is being done without passing the map have been stopped.
He said that the engineering department of the Municipal Corporation is also checking the strength of all the buildings built within the red line of the villages. And after the report of the weak buildings, appropriate action will be taken against them. He said that notices will be issued to the buildings whose height is more than the prescribed limit and they will be asked to correct them. In case of failure to do so, the Municipal Corporation will take action itself. And the entire cost of this will be recovered from the building owner. He said that those who violate the rules will not be spared.
