DC reviews action taken under Manual Scavenging Prohibition Act in the district

Patiala, December 4 - Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav has said that no case of manual scavenging has been reported in Patiala district. However, the district administration is determined to fully implement the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and Their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.

Patiala, December 4 - Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav has said that no case of manual scavenging has been reported in Patiala district. However, the district administration is determined to fully implement the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and Their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav was presiding over the meeting of the Patiala District Level Vigilance Committee under this Act today and to review the action taken under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 (Amendment Act, 2015). The Deputy Commissioner said that a survey has been conducted on manual scavengers as per the guidelines of the Act against manual scavenging implemented by the Ministry of Law and Justice and such surveys are being conducted continuously so that no such case arises.
He said that the report in this regard has been uploaded on the Namaste portal. Dr. Preeti Yadav instructed all the functional officers and BDPOs including the district officers to ensure that all the sections of the Act are fully implemented. As no lapse will be tolerated in this.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with the District Attorney and police officers under the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 Amendment Act, 2015 and reviewed it.
Dr. Preeti Yadav ordered the Deputy District Attorney to send a report on how many cases under the Act were quashed after FIR; how many cases were withdrawn; or how many cases were closed; and if compensation has been issued in these cases, whether it should be withdrawn or not.
Apart from this, orders were given to clarify the status of the cases in which the POSCO Act is applicable. On this occasion, ADC Urban Development Navreet Kaur Sekhon and District Welfare Officer Kulwinder Kaur and other officers were present.
