Hoshiarpur: As per the guidelines of Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Pawan Kumar Shagotra, the Health Department Hoshiarpur administered the oath to the students of ANM Training School on the occasion of National Pollution Control Day by District Epidemiologist Dr. Jagdeep Singh, making them aware about the causes of pollution and the measures to be adopted for its prevention.
On this occasion, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Kamlesh Kumari, District Vaccination Officer Dr. Seema Garg, Civil Hospital Incharge Senior Medical Officer Dr. Swati Shimar, Deputy Mass Media Officer Ramandeep Kaur, HI Tarsem Singh and Jaswinder Singh, Principal of ANM Training School Madam Sukhwinder Kaur, all staff members and students participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jagdeep Singh said that this day is of great importance to reduce the burden of air pollution and further strengthen our commitment to protect the health of the people. Air pollution is considered to be the biggest environmental hazard globally, which is associated with health-related impacts.
It also plays a significant role in climate change, as many sources of air pollution, such as fossil fuels used in factories, vehicles, etc., contribute significantly to the emission of greenhouse gases. Apart from this, the environment is also particularly polluted due to construction activities, burning of plastic waste/residues/stubble etc. Air pollution significantly affects both urban and rural populations, leading to a continuous increase in respiratory and heart-related diseases and many other diseases of the body.
Air pollution is posing serious threats to health and the environment. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly and women, are particularly affected. He said that considering air pollution is not only important for improving health, but also for protecting the climate and environment on which life depends.
After this, the students, officers and employees took an oath that they would actively contribute to the protection and conservation of the environment. They would mostly walk, cycle or use public transport. They would avoid wasting water, would not throw garbage anywhere other than the dustbin.
They would always carry a cloth bag while shopping and would not use plastic bags, they would try to use single-use plastic, packaged food/goods as little as possible. They would plant new trees and take care of the plants. Through such small but important efforts, we can move towards a cleaner, healthier and better sustainable future.
