Awareness program at Amity University on traffic rules and free legal aid by District Legal Services Authority and District Police

SAS Nagar, November 22, 2024: District Legal Services Authority and Police Department in collaboration with Amity University, SAS Nagar organized an awareness program on traffic rules and free legal aid at the university. Addressing the students, Member Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar Mr. Manjinder Singh said that members of Scheduled Castes or Tribes, women, children, mentally ill/disabled, beggars, industrial workers, persons in custody, prisoners and prisoners in jails and every person whose annual income is less than three lakh rupees are entitled to get free legal aid.

Addressing the students, Member Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar Mr. Manjinder Singh said that members of Scheduled Castes or Tribes, women, children, mentally ill/disabled, beggars, industrial workers, persons in custody, prisoners and prisoners in jails and every person whose annual income is less than three lakh rupees are entitled to get free legal aid.
 He also informed that in free legal aid, free services of lawyers in courts, free legal consultation, court fees, solicitors' fees and expenses incurred on witnesses etc. are paid by the District Legal Services Authority. Additional Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar Mr. Krishan Kumar Singla disclosed the old and new provisions under IPC and BNS respectively related to the penal provisions of Motor Vehicle Act in relation to general traffic violations.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), SAS Nagar Mr. Karnail Singh, while informing the students about the new traffic rules, said that if a child below the age of 18 drives a vehicle, then his parents can be imprisoned for three years and a fine of up to Rs. 25 thousand. Apart from this, if any person gives a child below the age of 18 to drive a vehicle, then he is also a party to the punishment. He also motivated the students to help the injured persons in road accidents. He said that if any person takes a person injured in a road accident to the hospital for treatment, his name will not be asked nor will he be forced to give any kind of testimony.
Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar Mrs. Surabhi Parashar informed that a National Lok Adalat is being held on 14.12.2024. In which cases related to land acquisition, family matters, traffic challans, complaints filed under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, recovery suits and service matters will be considered. If any person wants to pay his traffic challan in Lok Adalat, then he can apply in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate before 14.12.2024.
