Hoshiarpur- National Convenor of Aam Aadmi Party and former Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal today said that drugs had gripped the state due to the connivance of previous governments with drug smugglers.
While addressing the public during the Nasha Mukti Yatra, the former Chief Minister of Delhi expressed deep concern over the condition of the affected families and said that the people shared their sorrows and sufferings in a very emotional tone which proves that the previous governments did not take any steps to deal with drugs. He said that it was due to this negligence of the previous governments that the curse of drugs spread. Arvind Kejriwal said that the previous governments not only gave protection to the drug peddlers but they themselves ran this business in their government vehicles.
The National Convenor of AAP said that the state government led by Bhagwant Singh Mann is taking strict action against the menace of drugs. He said that the state government will not let its youth fall prey to this curse. Arvind Kejriwal said that after breaking the supply line of drugs, the main focus of the state government is now on rehabilitation of drug victims. He said that the state government is already making efforts to increase the number of beds in de-addiction centres.
The former Delhi Chief Minister said that this evil of drugs did not arise overnight but has spread its tentacles over the years, due to which countless families fell prey to drugs during the previous governments. He said that drugs have ruined many generations of the state, due to which their families have to suffer a lot. Arvind Kejriwal said that the Bhagwant Singh Mann led government is not only breaking the supply line of drugs but the state government is also focusing on rehabilitation of drug victims. He further said that this problem can be solved only with the active cooperation of the common people.
The AAP National Convenor said that the state government will adopt a dual policy to eliminate drug abuse, under which on one hand drug trafficking will be stopped and on the other hand the positive energy of the youth will be channelized in the right direction to deal with the curse of drugs. He said that the day is not far when Punjab will come out of the quagmire of drugs and emerge as the leading state of the country. Arvind Kejriwal said that it is the need of the hour that Punjab restores its old glory across the world and emerges as the flag bearer of the world in every field.
The former Chief Minister of Delhi also congratulated the Bhagwant Singh Mann led state government for the grand success of the 'Yuddh Naashon Viruddh' campaign.
He said that it is very satisfying to see that the villages which were under the deadly effect of drugs are now becoming drug free due to the joint efforts of the state government. Arvind Kejriwal said that drug smugglers were given protection by the previous state governments, but now 10,000 drug smugglers have been arrested, out of which 8500 are big fishes.
The AAP National Convenor said that the war against drugs will be taken to the grassroots level and around 13000 villages of the state will be reached out to.
He said that to use the energy of the youth in a positive way, the Punjab government will build stadiums in every village of the state. He said that to promote sports in a big way in the state, 3000 gyms will be built in 3000 big villages. Arvind Kejriwal said that the state has already given around 54000 jobs to its youth and now a systematic plan has been made to ensure employment for the youth in every village.
