Chandigarh residents must have a say on land swap and other local issues
Chandigarh is a unique UT, without legislator, which is already a capital of two states of Punjab and Haryana. It is mostly habituated by residents from both Punjab and Haryana states but of late sizable number of people from HP, UP, Uttarakhand and other states even Southern states have made Chandigarh their house.

With the increased population and higher education people here have been known for their views on the important public issues like metro, Tribune Flyover etc. Few years back Chandigarh administration also started seeking public opinion on important public issues even like closing of roads etc.
But with the change of guard at the secretariat the whole issue was abandoned. Earlier there was Open Forum under the administrator which gave opportunity to people to express their views freely direct to administrator in presence of all Senior Officers but that also has been abandoned for many years though two years back this was thought over but left in-between.
When ever issue of public import happens the need for a consensus and public participation, is felt for better results, on such as land being swapped with Haryana which is a ALL LOSS TO UT proposal as far as Chandigarh is concerned BECAUSE IT WILL HAMPER THE EDICTS OF CHANDIGARH BADLY . As such public opinion of Chandigarh residents should be sought and an urgent meeting advisory council be called specially to consider the issue of land swap with Haryana .Better step will be to consider the land swap in MC House on 23rd November when both Administrator and lone MP will be present.
As such it is emphasised that any decision on land should be finalised only after public opinion is found favourable. Luckily Hon’ble PM is also coming to Chandigarh very soon which can be an opportunity to think about issues of Chandigarh.
We hope that the administrator being concerned with the welfare of this UT will delve on the above request and create a mechanism to seek public opinion and ensure public participation on the immediate public importance issue.
