Una, 4 November – Adolescence is the most important age group. While the foundation of the future is laid at this age, the beginning of drug addiction also begins at this age. Teenagers often start drug addiction randomly. In this, their friends and neighborhood environment play an important role. This was revealed in a special study conducted under the drug-free Una campaign.
Important aspects of this study were shared during the press conference held at DRDA Hall Una. While sharing the study report in this press conference organized under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Raghav Sharma, it was said that among the students studying in senior classes in schools, almost every seventh student has consumed some kind of intoxicant. About fifty percent of these students were offered this intoxicant by their friends. The study also found that the risk of drug abuse doubles for students whose family members are drug addicts. About thirty-eight percent of the students reported that drugs are used in their homes. Due to which their risk of drug use increases.
The study found that teenagers have more emotional bonds with friends than with family. The interesting aspect is that in the junior classes this attachment is with the mother rather than the father, whereas with increasing age the inclination towards friends increases.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Una Raghav Sharma said that early intervention is necessary to prevent drug addiction. For this, the role of parents is most important. He said that in this direction, District Administration Una has taken necessary steps and started the 'Har Ghar Dastak' campaign in which information about keeping children safe is being shared in every house. The Deputy Commissioner said that keeping in view the important role of friends, a school program is being implemented where students are specially empowered to take appropriate decisions and make healthy choices.
