These donations, made by the grieving families of young road accident victims, involved four green corridors across the country, allowing the swift transport of vital organs to matching recipients.
On October 22nd, a 24-year-old male’s organs were donated, with his heart sent to Medanta, Gurugram, lungs to KIMS, Secunderabad, and liver to ILBS, New Delhi. Simultaneous kidney-pancreas and kidney transplants were also conducted at PGIMER, saving five lives. A day earlier, the organs of an 18-year-old brain-dead male were donated, with his liver sent to ILBS, and kidney transplants performed at PGIMER, saving three additional lives.
Prof. Vivek Lal, Director of PGIMER, praised the donor families for their bravery in the face of tragedy, calling organ donation a powerful act of generosity. He also lauded the hospital teams for their seamless coordination, which made these transplants possible. Prof. Vipin Koushal, ROTTO North Nodal Officer, commended the teamwork between PGIMER, NOTTO, and local authorities, particularly the Chandigarh Traffic Police, for ensuring the smooth execution of the green corridors essential for timely organ transport.
