
Health Department organized awareness rally under the theme "See the future clearly" on the occasion of "World Glaucoma Week"
Hoshiarpur- As per the guidelines of Health Department Punjab, World Glaucoma Week is being celebrated from 09 March to 15 March under the theme "See the future clearly". In this regard, the awareness rally organized by the students of Nursing School was flagged off by Civil Surgeon Dr. Pawan Kumar Shagotra.

On this occasion, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Kamlesh Kumari, Deputy Mass Media Officer Dr. Tripta Devi from Mass Media Wing, Deputy Mass Media Officer Ramandeep Kaur, Principal of Nursing School Madam Sukhwinder Kaur and members of District Eye Donation Association were also present.
Giving information about cataract, the Civil Surgeon said that glaucoma is one of the main causes of permanent blindness in India. Out of the total blind people in India, 12 percent are blind due to cataract. Unusual headaches or eye pain, frequent change of reading glasses, coloured halos around lights, sudden vision loss along with pain and redness in the eyes and limited field of vision are the symptoms of glaucoma.
He said that all people above the age of 40 should get their eyes checked once a year so that the disease can be identified in time and treatment can be started. Awareness about glaucoma is the only solution to this disease. Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Kamlesh Kumari said that during this week, patients suffering from cataract will be examined free of cost and more and more people will be made aware about it.
He said that if glaucoma is detected in time, it can be treated and further damage can be avoided. Therefore, get your eyes checked regularly in the nearest hospital.
