Nawanshahr - International Senior Citizens Day was celebrated with great pomp by Senior Citizens Association Nawanshahr at GN Celebration Hall, Banga Road, Nawanshahr under the patronage of Chairman Dr. JD Verma and under the chairmanship of Professor SK Bruta with the cooperation of all the members. From the Health Department, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur and District Social Security Officer Raj Kiran Kaur attended as the honored guests. Chairman Dr. JD Verma in his welcome address welcomed Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, District Social Security Officer Raj Kiran, other guests and group members and their family members. In his presidential address, President of the Association Professor SK Bruta said that Senior Citizens Association Nawanshahr was formed on 15 April 2013 with a membership of only 21 members, whereas today the number of its members has increased to 260.
He said that this organization includes members of every section of the society including retired officers, employees, private businessmen, women and people associated with agriculture of various government departments. It has also been given a lot of importance in the state institution Fedson. Association General Secretary SK Puri read the report about the social welfare work done and executed projects from 1 October to 30 September 2024 last year. In which the plantation of trees in DAV School Nawanshahr and the blood donation camp organized by the association in BDC Nawanshahr were specially mentioned.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman said that every person performs his duties while maintaining his landholding for the maintenance of his family, but forgets his rights. The efforts made by the Senior Citizens Association to make them aware of their rights are commendable. He said that he will continue to make every possible effort to solve all kinds of problems / difficulties of senior citizens.
He said that the elderly should get full respect in the society. He said that I am very happy that I have received the blessings of respected senior citizens by participating in this program. Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur said that in old age, the elderly should take special care of their diet. You should do light exercise to maintain your health. Along with this, children should pay special attention to the care of their elderly parents.
He said that senior citizens should take advantage of the facilities being provided by the Health Department and get their health checked from time to time. Social Security Officer Raj Kiran said that it is very important to have a joint family to get the blessings of the elderly. Women have a huge contribution in keeping the family united. He said that the elderly are our guides. They have bitter-sweet experiences of life. We should always stay with the elderly and take care of them.
Brij Mohan Singh from Grand Hotel, Prof. GS Sandhu from Sandhu Hospital, SK Puri from Epic Overseas, Gurucharan Arora from A-Plus Company, MP Pathak from Pathak Associates, Dr. Asim Rajpal from Rajpal Hospital and other contributors who made significant contribution in the publication of the directory by the association were honored and thanked. Apart from this, five very senior members of the association, Professor GS Sandhu, retired police officer Ram J Lal, Harbans Singh, Baldev Sund and Ashok Chopra were honoured by presenting shawls.
Jaspal Singh Gidda, MC Kulwant Kaur, Dr. Davinder Kumar Sharma, Surjit Kumar Superintendent also presented their views in the programme. Jeevan Kumar Pathak presented a patriotic song. Sukhdev Sharma and Subhash Arora and Darshan Dardi recited poems. The song was sung by Lalit Ohri. General Secretary SK Puri played the role of stage secretary very well. In the end, President SK Bruta thanked all the guests and members. A large number of members along with their families were present on this occasion.
