
Girls learnt self-defence techniques in Bangana College

Bangana (Una), October 8 - Under the special initiative 'Samarthya' of the district administration dedicated to the empowerment of women and youth of Una district, a 7-day free training camp organized to teach self-defense techniques to the girl students at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government College Bangana concluded on Tuesday. Organized under the Gender Equity Initiative of the college in collaboration with the Red Cross Society (Una), the girl students were given training in self-defense as well as health, fitness, self-confidence development and practical experience. The chief guest of the closing ceremony was the Principal of the college, Dr. Ramesh Thakur. Sub-inspector Suresh Pal and Kumari Neeraj Kumari were present as special guests in the program. The program was presided over by Professor Nikita Gupta, coordinator of Gender Equity Initiative, while the stage was conducted by Professor Krishna Chand.
On this occasion, the chief guest Dr. Ramesh Thakur said that the trained and experienced experts in the camp have made the girl students proficient in self-defense techniques, which will increase their self-confidence. They will not only be empowered, but will also feel self-reliant and secure in life. He praised the managers and children for organizing this event.
During the programme, the trainees gave a half-hour demonstration in which they demonstrated various self-defence techniques they learnt during these seven days.
On this occasion, Professor Nikita Gupta welcomed the guests and gave information about the activities of the camp. Professor Rekha, Professor Sikandar Negi, Professor Vinod, Professor Krishna and Professor Mukesh were present during the program. For making this event successful, master trainers were honored with mementos and certificates were given to them and all the trainees. Finally, the function concluded with the vote of thanks by Mukesh.

Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal said that under Samarthya, such 7-day camps are being organized in a phased manner to teach self-defense techniques to girls and women across the district. Along with school-college students, housewives and working women can also participate in these training camps. Interested girls and women can get themselves registered by contacting the principal of their nearest government college.
