Patiala, October 5 - A prisoner committed suicide by jumping from a tree in Patiala Central Jail. This prisoner was lodged in jail on charges of drug trafficking. After the incident, the body of the prisoner was sent to the mortuary of Rajindra Hospital. The deceased has been identified as Karanveer Singh alias Sonu, aged about 28 years. He was caught with narcotic capsules. After being produced in the court, he was sent to Central Jail. According to the latest news, he committed suicide by jumping from a tree last Thursday.
When the prisoner jumped from the tree, he fell on a jail employee. Due to which the employee's tooth also broke. The injured employee Jaswinder Singh is undergoing treatment. The prisoner was caught with 830 narcotic pills. The deceased Karanveer Singh alias Sonu was a resident of Anand Nagar Patiala, who was arrested by SI Gurpinder Singh and police party with 830 banned capsules near the stadium in village Jassowal. Tripri police station SHO Pradeep Singh Bajwa said that the dead prisoner has been handed over to the heirs after post-mortem.
