Nawanshahr - Vegetables have a special importance in a balanced diet. According to the need of the house, one should cultivate vegetables without drugs under the home garden. This will not only increase the income but also keep the health healthy by consuming pure and fresh vegetables. Because vegetables are rich in nutrients. These views were expressed by Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Shri Rajesh Dhiman, (IAS) while releasing the vegetable seed kit for home garden.
 He gave information about the winter season vegetable seed mini kits given by the horticulture department under the home garden scheme in the district. That vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, salts and fibers that increase the disease-fighting power of the human body. Vegetables can be grown in vacant lots or fields to meet the needs of your family. Horticulture Department is giving 2000 vegetable seed kits in district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar during the month of September-October.
These kits contain 9 types of vegetable seeds including Radish, Carrot, Turnip, Pea, Spinach, Fenugreek, Coriander, Broccoli, Chinese Mustard. They can be sown during this period. Present Assistant Director Horticulture Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that according to the National Institute of Nutrition Hyderabad, every person should consume 380 grams of vegetables and 100 grams of fruits per day in a balanced diet.
A vegetable seed mini kit costs Rs.80/-. These vegetable seed mini kits can be obtained from Horticulture Department Head Office or Block Offices. SDM Balachor Ravinder Bansal, Dr Paramjit Singh Horticulture Development Officer Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar were present on this occasion.
