Nawanshahr - Under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Mr. Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, a meeting of District Health Board regarding prevention of violence against health care professionals was held today at District Administrative Complex, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. In which Hon'ble Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Hon'ble SSP Sardar Mehtab Singh, Senior Medical Officer of District Hospital, Nawanshahr Dr. Satwinderpal Singh, Finance Secretary of India Medical Association, Nawanshahr, Nursing Sister Satwinder Kaur, representatives of paramedical staff were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Sardar Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa said that the District Administration, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar is alert to strengthen the security of health care professionals after Kolkata incident.
Sardar Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa discussed the issue of strengthening security arrangements in the hospitals of the district with the members of District Health Committee.
During this meeting, Deputy Commissioner Sardar Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa issued instructions to the members of District Health Board and said that the need to take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of health care professionals should be emphasized. He further said that the security of health care professionals in government hospitals of the district should be enhanced. Security personnel or other support staff should be deployed with health care professionals on night duty. Keeping in view the safety of health professionals in hospitals, dark areas should be illuminated with LED lights as a precaution. Hospitals should be monitored with CCTV cameras at all times so that every person visiting hospitals is under CCTV surveillance.
He said that the functioning of committees to deal with physical violence against women at workplaces should be observed. Hospital Security Committee and Violence Prevention Committee should be established in health institutions at District Hospital, Sub Division Hospital, CHC and PHC levels. It was also directed that women helpline numbers should be properly displayed in hospitals for the safety of women. Regular patrolling of health institutions by the police should be ensured. Heads of all health institutions should keep contact numbers of the nearest police stations with them. The need to call 112 healthline number or adopt other safety measures to ensure immediate action in case of emergency for the safety of health care professionals should also be emphasized.
It should be ensured that boards in Punjabi and English language are put up in all the hospitals of the district regarding the protection of Medicare service persons and Medicare service institutions (Prevention of Property Damage and Violence) Act, 2008.
They should make such strong arrangements that if any mischievous element does any heinous act, he should be controlled within no time.
