
Collaborative departments to work together to prevent diseases caused by contaminated water - Additional Deputy Commissioner (J)

On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (J) Shri Rajeev Verma directed the various supporting departments including the health authorities to be ready for the prevention of diseases caused by bacteria and contaminated water in the district during the rainy season.

On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (J) Shri Rajeev Verma directed the various supporting departments including the health authorities to be ready for the prevention of diseases caused by bacteria and contaminated water in the district during the rainy season.
He said that all the supporting departments in the district should work together to prevent diseases caused by bacteria and contaminated water. He said that inter-departmental cooperation is very necessary to prevent the spread of diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya with bacteria and diarrhea, vomiting, cholera, jaundice with contaminated water during the rainy season. While instructing the health officers, he said that all supporting departments including Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Municipal Council, Education Department, Integrated Child Development Department should take action to implement immediate measures to prevent diseases through interaction. To ensure that these diseases can be dealt with effectively through appropriate measures immediately while there is time.
Stating that the prevention and control of such diseases is a collective responsibility, the Additional Deputy Commissioner said that every department should update its activities in the WhatsApp group maintained at the district level. Mr. Verma further said that timely provision of adequate supply of H2S vials for testing water samples should be ensured so that precious human lives can be saved from these diseases. He said that according to the set targets, water samples should be collected and sent to the laboratories and in case of sample failure, immediate action should be taken by every supporting department. In case of outbreak of disease at any place, immediate action should be taken in coordination with the concerned departments.
Emphasis should be placed on the need to strengthen the supervision management in that district. He said that every possible effort should be made to control the diseases caused by organisms and contaminated water by interacting with the partner departments. Concerned departments should be informed about the mixing of contaminated water in drinking water, continuous checking should be done to ensure the quality of unwrapped fruits/vegetables and other food items. In order to avoid diseases caused by contaminated water, the common people should be made aware and they should be encouraged to adopt the method of hand washing in their daily life. He said that if there is a problem of contaminated water in an area, the concerned department should be informed to supply drinking water to the common people from an alternative source until the problem of water contamination is not rectified in that area. So that such cases can be prevented from increasing further.
He said that the Local Government Department has the responsibility of conducting fogging in cities and towns and the Panchayat Department in villages at regular intervals. So schedule of fogging should be shared in advance. Mr. Rajeev Verma further said that for the prevention of feticide in the district, timely registration of pregnant women should be ensured so that they can be brought into the monitoring system. He said that in order to reduce the maternal mortality rate, arrangements should be made for safe delivery of each high-risk mother with special attention. He said that in order to further increase the rate of delivery in government hospitals, people should be made more aware of the facilities provided to pregnant women who give birth in government hospitals.
He instructed the officials of the Food Safety Wing to implement the Food Safety Act in full in the district. Wherever any adulteration is suspected, samples should be taken and sent for investigation and strict action should be taken against adulteration. Maximum awareness activities should be ensured to ensure the quality and purity of food items in the district. On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur said that during the rainy season, the possibility of spread of diseases like diarrhea, vomiting, cholera, jaundice increases with contaminated water. To prevent these diseases, the district health department is performing its prescribed tasks well. Whenever a problem of contaminated water is detected in an area, the relevant departments are immediately informed in this regard so that such cases can be prevented from increasing further.
