Best public health practices of Himachal Pradesh demonstrated during field visit for 26th IPHMDP participants from 20 countries

Sustained efforts in providing low-cost intradermal rabies vaccines have led to its recognition by the WHO," said Dr. Omesh Bharti, State Epidemiologist and Padma Shri awardee, during a field visit by International Public Health Management Development Program (IPHMDP) delegates from 20 countries including Burundi, Tanzania, and Nepal. He shared his journey towards the acceptance of intradermal rabies vaccines and other cost-effective health measures.

Innovative practices in the National TB Elimination Program, like the Nikshay Mitra Scheme, drone delivery of samples and drugs, and AI-driven diagnostic tools were also showcased. Dr. Gopal Chauhan discussed Shimla's progress towards becoming tobacco-free and strategies for controlling non-communicable diseases.
Delegates participated in hands-on demonstrations at the Skill Lab in Parimahal, emphasizing the importance of equipping healthcare providers to improve health outcomes, especially in maternal and child health. They also visited the Central Research Institute (CRI) Kasauli, where achievements in vaccine production and public health initiatives were highlighted by Dr. Sanjay Kutty and Dr. Sanjay T Chavan.
A cultural night in Shimla underscored the importance of field-based learning and cross-cultural exchange. "Immersing in diverse environments deepens our understanding of global health issues," said Dr. Sonu Goel, Program Director. Over the past eight years, more than 1,300 delegates from 87 countries have enhanced their skills through this program by the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
