Hoshiarpur - For the last 10 years, the employees of Punjab state's de-addiction centers and OAT clinics have been supporting the government like first-class soldiers day and night to make Punjab drug-free. These employees were recruited on contract basis as per Punjab Government rules through public appointments in a thorough and transparent manner.
The previous government did not give anything to them except money. However, the contract employees of drug de-addiction centers got a ray of hope from the Bhagwant Mann government, which now seems to be closing down. While talking to the journalists, Parminder Singh, the state president of Punjab Drug Free Employees Union, said that the employees in many departments in Punjab are working on very low wages and the governments are exploiting them. While the Chief Minister had promised to raise the issue of employees in the manifesto. Instead of new recruitment, the problems of the old employees should be solved first. Delhi and Haryana government has made the salaries of raw employees at par with regular employees.
We request Bhagwant Maan government to implement this same role model in Punjab And we demand to restore the suspended financial allowances of the employees and regularize their services by taking them out of the contract system. District President Amrik Singh said that the employees of the health department and de-addiction centers risked their lives during Kovid by working day and night to defeat Kovid, and now they are cooperating with the government in the de-addiction campaign. Every day 200 to 300 patients come to these de-addiction centers to take medicine. These employees are still waiting for the reward of receiving salary equal to the regular employees from the government, so that the employees can perform their important role more honestly. In the last two years, the union has had about 20 meetings with the health department and the health minister, which were inconclusive.
Harpal Singh Cheeman, Chetan Singh Jora Majra, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur were also contacted, but like every time the employee has faced disappointment. It is worth mentioning that despite giving a written meeting to the union four times, the Chief Minister himself has not held a single meeting with the employees and the current government has responded by throwing threats like the previous government. The result of which the government got in the Lok Sabha elections. All drug addiction centers across Punjab will remain closed as a strike on Friday, July 5, as a protest of the employees of the drug addiction treatment centers. And the patients will not get medicine, and are going to hold a protest rally at Jalandhar on July 6 with the support of other unions.
In which they will also blow the effigy of the government. We request the government to give their due rights (regular and financial benefits) to them soon, otherwise the protest will be intensified, it will be the responsibility of the Punjab government.
