SAS Nagar, August 28 - Former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has said that the Punjab government is working on a policy of handing over the panchayat lands of 17 villages of Mohali constituency to its cronies, against which a big struggle will be launched.
In a statement issued here, Mr. Sidhu said that preparations have been made to sell the shamlat lands of 17 villages of Mohali constituency - Sukhgarh, Sunnypur, Green Enclave, Daun, Manakpur Kallar, Kandala, Kambali, Behrampur, Raipur Kallan, Chuharchiri Kallan, Rurka, Badi, Tangori, Raipur Khurd, Gidderpur, Nanumajra and Bhagomajra - through open auction.
He said that the Punjab government had earlier also created a big controversy over the land of village Daun, which was tried to be given to Shyam Builder through the Municipal Council Kharar. Despite the District Development and Panchayat officers withdrawing their recommendations and the Additional Deputy Commissioner ordering a halt to the process, the Municipal Council Kharar tried to give the land by passing a resolution, which is clearly an action taken under pressure.
He said that the government wants to collect the panchayat lands of these villages and distribute them to its favourite people. This is not just land loot, but a robbery on the future of the villages, because where will the land for schools, colleges, hospitals, grounds or dharamshalas come from tomorrow.
Sidhu, raising the issue of the panchayat land of village Papri, alleged that the Mohali MLA has grabbed about 6 acres of land of this village, which is worth at least Rs 300 crore, but no registration was done, no auction was held and no price was fixed.
He said that these conspiracies of the government will not be allowed to be fulfilled and if necessary, a strong struggle will be waged against the government.
