73 playgrounds ready in the villages of the district at a cost of Rs 630.39 crore: Sonam Chaudhary

She told the officials that no negligence will be tolerated in the ongoing works of government schemes. She directed the officials of Mandi Board and Public Works Department to complete the pending work related to repair of damaged roads soon.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sonam Chaudhary reviewed various development works to be done to improve the look of villages, cleaning of ponds, drinking water projects, removal of illegal encroachments. The Additional Deputy Commissioner told the BDPO that various works should be made available to MNREGA workers as much as possible under the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the remaining works should be completed as soon as possible.
With special focus on sports in Punjab, 154 playgrounds are to be constructed in the villages of the district, out of which 73 have been constructed and work is in progress on 84. So far, about Rs 630.39 crore has been spent on these works.
She said that MNREGA not only provides employment to people in rural areas but it is also increasing the economic level of the people along with the development of infrastructure in rural areas. She asked to plant saplings in villages under Magnrega, complete the ponds under the Shared Water Pond Scheme without delay and construct more ponds, develop structures for rainwater harvesting in schools, ensure participation of MNREGA workers for cleaning of ponds.
Mrs. Chaudhary said that under agro-forestry, 05 acres have been developed in village Quranwala in Derabassi, 2.5 acres in Nabipur in Kharar and 17 acres in Bhajheri, 2.5 acres in Mazra village in Majri; At the same time, the process of doing agroforestry is going on in 1.5 acres in village Daidi of Mohali.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that the officers of the departments related to development works should go to the field themselves and monitor the schemes. Cleanliness of villages is an important objective, for which the BDO of the district should inspect himself, so that the look of the villages can be improved.
He also asked the District Employment Bureau to go to the villages and organize camps to make the youth aware about employment so that employment can be provided to as many unemployed people as possible. Apart from this, he said that a week before the camp is organized in any village, people should be made aware about the camp through the village sarpanch so that the youth can take advantage of these camps. Paying more attention to the mid-day meal in the school, he said that the quality of food should be checked from time to time and its outstanding should be recorded in the register.
During the meeting, the officials of the Agriculture Department told that under the ongoing Crop Residue Management Scheme, subsidy has been given on 191 machines so far, on which a subsidy of Rs 3.57 crore has been released.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner asked all the officers including the BDPO to expedite the development works and pay personal attention to the ongoing works and he also said that if there is any difficulty in any work, it should be brought to his notice and proper solution should be found.
He also asked the officers of all the departments to give progress reports of the works from time to time to complete the development works going on in the district as soon as possible. He appealed to complete the work under solid and liquid waste in the villages as soon as possible within the stipulated time frame. He took information from the BDPO about the development works being done in the villages and directed them to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach the eligible people at the ground level.
During the meeting, he reviewed the schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Vishwakarma Yojana, Aatma Yojana, PW Works, Swachhta Survey etc. and directed the concerned departments to provide the utility certificate soon. He reviewed the works going on under the MPLAD scheme and asked to complete them on time.
