A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran has reprimanded the states for the vacant posts in pollution control boards and has asked states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab to fill them within three months.
The bench has also issued similar directions to the Air Quality Management Commission and the Central Pollution Control Board. However, it has given six months to fill the posts in state pollution control boards, CAQM and CPCB.
Let us tell you that CAQM is a statutory body created by the Centre and its main objective is to manage and improve air quality in the National Capital Region and its adjoining areas. It includes parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The bench was hearing a suo motu plea related to filling up of vacancies in these authorities. The matter will be next heard on October 8.
