Chandigarh, September 10 - Punjab CPI has said that the relief of Rs 1600 crore announced by Prime Minister Modi during his visit to Punjab is rubbing salt in the wounds of Punjab. He said that this announcement has also exposed the BJP government's face of destroying the federal structure.
In a statement issued here, the party's state secretary Sathi Bant Singh Brar said that the Centre has already buried Rs 60,000 crore of Punjab. Similarly, the amount of Rs 2 lakh to be given to the family of the deceased is also very meager.
He said that the Central Government should have announced at least Rs 20,000 crore relief immediately. He said that the announcement of Rs 5 crore for the martyred soldiers by the Aam Aadmi Party government was a welcome step, but now that everything has been destroyed for the families and for the families of those who died in the floods, neither the Centre nor the Punjab government has announced the required amount.
He said that the Punjab government should announce the demands of all the farmers and farm labour organizations, including Rs 70,000 for the destruction of crops per acre and Rs 50,000 for farm labourers and Rs 5 lakh for houses.
