
Gujarat: AAP candidate Italia Gopal wins from Visavadar seat.
Ahmedabad, June 23 - AAP candidate Italia Gopal has won the by-election to Visavadar assembly constituency in Gujarat. Gopal defeated BJP's Kirit Patel by 17554 votes. AAP candidate Italia Gopal got a total of 75942 votes.

Patel came second with 58388 votes while Congress candidate Nitin Ranparia came third with 5501 votes. The Visavadar seat fell vacant in December 2023 after the then AAP MLA Bhupendra Bhayani resigned and joined the ruling BJP.
On the other hand, BJP candidate Rajendra Chavda won from Kadi seat by a huge margin of 39,452 votes. Rajendra Chavda got 99742 votes while Congress' Rameshbhai Chavda, who came second, got 60290 votes. The Kadi constituency, reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, fell vacant after the death of BJP MLA Karsan Solanki in February.
The BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have fielded their candidates on both the seats. The Visavadar seat fell vacant in December 2023 after the then AAP MLA Bhupendra Bhayani resigned and joined the ruling BJP.
For the Visavadar by-election, the BJP had fielded Kirit Patel, while the Congress had fielded Nitin Ranpariya and the AAP had fielded Gopal Italia. The Kadi constituency, reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, fell vacant after the death of BJP MLA Karsan Solanki in February. The BJP had fielded Rajendra Chavda from Kadi, while the Congress had fielded former MLA Ramesh Chavda.
Ramesh Chavda had won the seat in 2012 but lost to BJP's Karsanbhai Solanki in 2017. In the 182-member Gujarat Assembly, the BJP has 161 MLAs, while the Congress has 12 and the AAP has four. The Samajwadi Party has one seat and two seats are occupied by Independents.
