East Champaran, Bihar- In response to the demand for an investigation into the false cases filed against journalists, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Champaran Range, Har Kishore Rai, assured an impartial investigation. A five-member delegation, led by Bharti Shramik Journalist Association founder Shahnawaz Hasan, met with him in Bettiah on September 24, 2025, and demanded an investigation into the cases filed against three East Champaran journalists: Sanjeev Jaiswal, Neeraj Kumar, and Sagar Suraj, and a stay on their arrests.
The delegation included association founder Shahnawaz Hasan, state president Ajay Kumar, and senior journalists Narendra Jha and Shiv Prasad Tiwari. The association's founder submitted a detailed memorandum to the DIG, describing the cases filed against the journalists as fabricated and false. The memorandum stated that a false case under the SC/ST Act and extortion charges has been filed against journalist Sanjeev Jaiswal at the Ghorasahan police station. The Superintendent of Police has issued a proclamation against him as a criminal, which the Sangh strongly condemns.
Meanwhile, a false case under the SC/ST Act has been filed against senior journalist Sagar Suraj at the Dumriya Ghat police station.
The delegation specifically highlighted the case of journalist Neeraj Kumar, who was jailed at the Patahi police station in 2021 on a serious charge of murder. The Sangh had previously submitted an application to the Chief Secretary and DGP for an investigation into this matter, but no action was taken. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also ordered an investigation, but hopes for justice have been dashed at the district and police station levels, as the rate of action against police officers has been virtually zero.

DIG's Assurance
DIG Har Kishore Rai listened to the delegation's concerns seriously. He expressed concern over such actions against journalists and assured that all cases will be reviewed and a fair investigation will be ensured. The delegation expressed hope that the DIG's intervention would ensure justice for these journalists and end the cycle of false cases. This meeting has raised new hopes among journalists that the judicial process will be fair and impartial.
