Nawanshahr, August 7- As per the instructions received from the Director Women and Child Development Department Punjab, orders have been given by the Honorable Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ankurjit Singh IASGG to strictly implement the Project Pan India Child Labor Campaign.
Following which, today, on August 5, 2025, under the leadership of District Program Officer Mr. Jagroop Singh, District Child Protection Officer Kanchan Arora, a District Task Force was checked against child labor and child begging on Bus Stand Road, Garh Shankar Road and Banga to Nawashar Road in Block Banga under District Nawanshahr.
And during the checking by the team, a child below the age of 18 was freed from child begging. After rescuing the child, the District Child Protection Unit team has presented him to the Child Welfare Committee so that further action can be taken to ensure his safety.
Keeping the safety of the child in mind, the Child Welfare Committee has currently provided shelter to the child at Sakhi One Stop Center. After this, the parents of the child will be searched and after verifying the child's documents, action will be taken to ensure his safety.
The District Child Protection Unit will admit the child to school according to his age. On this occasion, District Program Officer Mr. Jagroop Singh, who was present, made the shopkeepers and the general public aware that getting children below the age of 18 to work and begging is a crime under the law.
To eradicate child labor, instead of putting them to work, counseling should be done for children and their parents so that instead of making their children work or begging, parents should send them to school to connect them with education and create a bright future for them.
Along with this, he appealed that if any person sees a child below the age of 18 engaged in labor or begging, then information regarding this should be provided to the District Child Protection Unit, Room No. 309, 2nd Floor, DC Office or Child Helpline No. 1098.
