Patiala- The search for Punjab's AAP MLA and rape case accused Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra continued today. Officials said that two days ago, the AAP MLA had escaped from the custody of Pathanmajra police. They said that a team of the Punjab Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), which is specially trained to take action against gangsters and notorious criminals, has been deployed to arrest the Sanaur MLA. The AAP MLA had been embroiled in controversies for making remarks against the party.
Police claimed that for the first time, the MLA escaped from custody on Tuesday, when a team went to arrest him in Dabri village of Haryana's Karnal district, his supporters opened fire and pelted stones. He was at a relative's house at that time.
He released a video message from an undisclosed location on Wednesday, denying police claims of involvement in the firing and declaring that he had fled after knowing that he would be killed in a “fake encounter”.
Pathanmajra alleged that the party was trying to suppress Punjab MLAs instead of fixing the administration.
He said that he had raised these issues several times in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, submitted memorandums and personally met Principal Secretary (Water Resources) Krishan Kumar several times but “not a single meaningful step was taken.” He also appealed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to remove Kumar from his post. On Monday, Pathanmajra claimed that his security has been withdrawn and all the station house officers and police post chiefs of his constituency have been transferred.
