In the 200-year long struggle for freedom, many neglected martyrs have been brought before the public through theatrical performances, which are rarely mentioned in history.
Even after that, hundreds of martyrs who suffered the hellish torture of Kalapani Jail or attained martyrdom in the freedom struggle remained unknown. It is the biggest duty of theatre artists to bring their unparalleled sacrifice to the public.
These revolutionaries, brought to the cellular jail at different times in the play, bear the pain of not being able to do anything for the freedom of the country and also suffer the most hellish torture. Living a lonely life on an island thousands of miles away from the country, they try day and night to know the progress of the freedom movement but they do not get any specific information.
The old revolutionaries in jail keep trying to know the progress of the freedom movement from the new revolutionaries brought to the jail but they never get any particular success. Everyone has a feeling of guilt in their hearts that they could not fight such a glorious struggle against the British which would result in them getting the glorious punishment of death by hanging.
Their contribution was very little. As a result, they were given the punishment of black water instead of hanging. This guilty feeling of not being able to serve the country fills them with hatred towards themselves. Therefore, these revolutionaries, while in jail, try to get rid of the burden of guilt by killing policemen and officers there and keep achieving martyrdom.
