SAS Nagar, May 20- On the joint call of PSEB Employees Joint Forum, Bijli Mulazam Ekta Manch, and Junior Engineers Association, a protest day was observed in Mohali division in response to the nationwide call of ten unions.
The leaders said that the nationwide strike proposed on May 20 has been postponed keeping in mind the conditions of the country and the strike has been announced on July 9. The main objective of this strike is to protest against the conversion of 44 labor laws into four labor codes, which are not in the interest of the workers.
The leaders said that many profitable government departments are being sold at nominal prices, which is not in the interest of the country. Farmers are not getting a fair price for their crops, and sectors like railways, transport, and electricity are being rapidly privatized.
He said that the Punjab government is also keen to sell its departments to private companies. Under this, 11 KV systems of Lalru and Kharar are being privatized, which is being strongly opposed by Powercom employees. Out of 75,000 sanctioned posts in the Powercom department, only about 35,000 employees are working, who are working under mental pressure, due to which frequent accidents are taking place and employees are losing their precious lives.
It was demanded that the vacant posts should be filled immediately so that the work of the department can run smoothly and better facilities can be provided to the public. The protest was also addressed by Balwinder Kumar, Ranjit Singh Kharar, Sukinderpal Singh, Gurpreet Singh Chhina, Mohan Singh Gill, and the organization's general secretary Surinderpal Singh Lahoria.
