Nawanshahr - The Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) Punjab Committee has expressed its solidarity with the struggle of transporters, especially drivers, across the country against the insensitive provisions of drivers in the Indian New Code (2). which is now applicable in the entire country in place of the old IPC. IFTU Punjab Committee State President Kulwinder Singh Waraich and State Press Secretary Jasbir Deep have said. That the old provision in case of death due to negligence, generally accidental death was punishable with 2 years imprisonment under 304 A of IPC.
Under the new law, there will be a 5-year jail term in case of simple accidents, while in cases of hit-and-run accidents, drivers will face 10 years in jail and a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh. He said that the issue he is raising has many aspects. First, it is true that truck drivers typically move through many states and are seen as 'outsiders' in terms of accidents. Secondly, it is perfectly true that if the locals catch the driver, they often resort to beatings to bring justice to the mob.
Sometimes even when the police come, they sympathize with the local reaction and do not protect the drivers. Thirdly, that transport drivers can never 'escape' because the vehicle is allotted to them or the documents are in their name. They will always be detected.
The truth is that the central government and the state governments that maintain the highways, maintain the roads, ensure the lighting of long stretches of the roads even within the cities, working traffic signals. Free sidewalks for pedestrians are not considered. He said that the government should withdraw this new law immediately.
