
DC directs officials to protect areas falling under Punjab Land Preservation Act in SAS Nagar district
SAS Nagar, December 31, 2024: To strictly maintain the restrictions under Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA), Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain directed the officials to ensure appropriate action as per law in case of any violation.

Holding a review meeting with local body officials, town planning officials, civil, revenue and forest departments, she said that as per Section 4, the area falling under PLPA should be kept protected as per the order of the forest department.
She made it clear that the de-listed area should not affect the area under PLPA, therefore, it will be the joint responsibility of all departments especially local bodies and town planning to carefully deal with the requisite permissions. She said that it should also be ensured that no commercial activity takes place in the de-listed areas.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the hot spot areas identified by the Forest Department in Majri and Naya Gaon should be thoroughly inspected and no scope for any violation should be left. In case of any violation, the concerned authority, be it local body or town planning, should take prompt action as per law. Emphasizing on coordinated efforts of all departments, he said that regular monitoring should be maintained and it should be ensured that any activity in the delisted areas does not have a negative impact on the PLPA rules.
He said that in view of increasing urbanization, it is the responsibility of local bodies and town planning to protect the PLPA area from construction activities. He asked the committee constituted for Mirzapur consisting of Naib Tehsildar Majri, Range Officer Forest and concerned SHO to inspect the violations, if any, initiate legal proceedings against the violators and stop the construction activities immediately.
Divisional Forest Officer Kanwardeep Singh, ADC (G) Viraj S Tidke, SDM Kharar Gurminder Singh, District Revenue Officer Amandeep Chawla, Raghbir Singh Naib Tehsildar Majri, BDPO Majri Gurminder Singh and EO Nayagaon Ravi Jindal were present in the meeting.
