
First snowfall of the season in Ladakh.
Leh: The highlands of Ladakh, including the 18,379-foot Khardung La Pass, received the first snowfall of the season. Moderate rains continued in the plains of the Union Territory. Most of the mountain passes have received light to moderate snowfall in the last 24 hours.

Officials said that this includes Khardung La peak, which acts as the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys, 17,950-foot Changla peak along the Leh-Pangong Lake road and areas of the Zanskar valley.
Officials said that rains occurred in Leh and Kargil district headquarters and other areas. However, there was no report of any damage during this time. Meteorologists have issued a red alert warning for Ladakh, in which heavy rains have been predicted at many places. Light to moderate rains are likely on Tuesday, followed by isolated heavy rains, followed by dry weather from August 27 to 30.
The authorities have warned of possible damage to old earthen-framed houses, water leakage, disruption of traffic on roads, snowfall at higher altitudes and localized landslides or mudslides. People have been advised to remain alert and follow official advisories.
