Passenger bus falls into Alaknanda river in Rudraprayag; one body found, many injured

Rudraprayag/Chandigarh, June 26 - A passenger bus lost control and fell into the Alaknanda river this morning in the Gholtir area of ??Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. It is said that the bus was 16-seater. So far, one person has been reported dead in the accident, while seven people are said to have been injured. SDRF, police and administration teams are engaged in search and rescue operations.

It is said that the bus was 16-seater. So far, one person has been reported dead in the accident, while seven people are said to have been injured. According to initial information, the bus went out of control and fell directly into the river at the time of the accident. It is reported that about five people got out of the bus and fell into the river, who were taken out in an injured condition. It is feared that the remaining passengers may have been swept away in the river. Rudraprayag BJP senior leader Vinay Bhatt said that teams of SDRF, police and district administration have reached the spot. Relief and rescue operations are going on on a war footing.
It is being told that relief and rescue operations are facing difficulties due to high water level and fast flow in the river. The administration has asked nearby hospitals to remain alert while appealing to the local people to exercise restraint and cooperate. The causes of the accident are currently being investigated.
