Patiala- Panthic Council Chairperson Bibi Satwant Kaur has expressed serious concern over the method used by the Punjabi University administration regarding more than 15 thousand copies of Mahankosh. She said that this method is going to hurt the traditions and morality of the Sikh Panth.
In the statement issued, Bibi Satwant Kaur said that Mahankosh is not just a dictionary or a book, but a great work of Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha Ji which is a living mirror of Sikh history, Gurbani, Sikh vocabulary and Panthic heritage. It is very important that its publication and distribution be in accordance with Sikh traditions and morality. If there was a wrong printing, they should either send it to Goindwal Sahib or adopt Panthic tradition.
Bibi Satwant Kaur reminded that in the tradition of the Sikh Panth, in all works or institutions related to national heritage, a sense of Panthic consensus and consultation with Sikh historical institutions are considered mandatory. If this process is ignored in any way, then it is considered a violation of Sikh morality.
She said that the printing of thousands of copies of this heritage by the Punjabi University administration with errors is tantamount to ignoring Sikh organizations and Gurmat principles.
Bibi Satwant Kaur demanded from the university administration that,
1. The university administration should file its written explanation in this entire matter.
2. In the future, publications related to Mahan Kosh or other Panthic heritage or actions like today should be done only after consulting the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and prominent Sikh scholars.
3. Instead of the method that is now being used of burying in the ground and tearing it apart, action should be taken as per Panthic norms.
He appealed to the Sikh community to maintain peace on this matter and avoid provocation and to refrain from using any kind of harsh rhetoric and verbal abuse on this matter within the university campus.
