Jammu- Monsoon has taken a terrible shape in many states of North India. At the same time, flood-like conditions have been created in the hilly states due to rain. Due to the increase in the water level of the Chenab river after the torrential rains in Jammu, the authorities have opened the gates of the Salal Dam in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. Along with this, the gates of the Baglihar Dam have been opened.
In fact, the gates have been opened to drain excess water and prevent flood-like conditions. The authorities have issued instructions appealing to the local people to stay away from the river banks and follow all safety instructions.
Due to heavy rains, the risk of floods has now increased in Punjab too. The Pandoh Dam located in Mandi district is completely filled with water. Due to this, all five gates of the dam have been opened and about 44 thousand cusecs of water is being released. Due to this, the water level in the Beas River is continuously increasing.
The water released from the dam is flowing towards Pong Dam via Sanghol, Sujanpur, Naidun and Dera. After this, this water will reach the Talwara region of Punjab, which poses a risk of waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas.
