
Punjab’s first horse riding festival to begin from March 1
SAS Nagar, February 27: The SAS Nagar district administration will organise Punjab’s first horse riding festival on March 1 and 2 at The Ranch, Forest Hill Resort, Gate No. 4, Village Karoran in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Punjab. While reviewing the ongoing preparations during a meeting with the concerned departments and agencies, DC Komal Mittal said that all arrangements should be completed by tomorrow (Friday) evening and no deadline should be missed.

The horse riding festival is being organised for the first time, involving around 250 horses of native breeds Marwari and Nukra. Several events will be organised during the festival from 8 am to 8 pm, including horse jumping, ring competitions, tent pegging, display of Marwari breed, a unique fashion show with horses and performances by NZCC teams and musical evenings by renowned Punjabi singers on both days.
He said that no entry fee will be charged from either the participants or the spectators for this event. All are welcome to witness this unique festival based on the performance of the horsemen. He said that apart from horses from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, sport breeds of Punjab Police, Haryana Police, ITBP and private stud farms have been invited for this event.
Three arenas have been set up at the venue, The Ranch, Forest Hill Resort, Gate No. 4, Village Karoran, for the successful organisation of this two-day horse riding festival. Besides, NZCC teams will present cultural programmes during the day, while from 6 pm onwards, performances by famous Punjabi singer Meet Kaur (on the first day) and Dilpreet Dhillon (on the second day) will enthrall the audience.
Sharing details of the events, he said that on the first day, Team Lance Tent Pegging, Six Bar Jumping, Sword Individual Tent Pegging, Horse Dance Competition, Fashion Show, Dressage Preliminary, Open Hacks, Farrier Test, Milk Teeth Filly Ring, Horse Display, Milk Teeth Colt Ring, Two Teeth Colt Ring and Fashion Show would be held.
On the second day, Lance Individual Tent Pegging, Show Jumping Derby, Sword Team Tent Pegging, Fancy Dress, Final Run Sword Team, Medley Relay, Medal Ceremony, Dressage Elementary, Show Jumping Group 1-2-3, Pole Bending Race, Ball and Bucket Race, Ladies Hacks, Ghodi Nukra Ring, Horse Display, Stallion Nukra Ring, Ghodi Marwari Ring, Horse Display, Stallion Marwari Ring would be the attractions of the day. He said that medical and animal husbandry teams have already been deployed while other arrangements like cleaning and levelling have been finalised.
ADC Sonam Chaudhary, SDM Kharar Gurmander Singh, CMFO Deepankar Garg, Assistant Commissioner (G) Dr. Ankita Kansal, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Shivkant Gupta, District Sports Officer Rupesh Kumar, representatives of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department were present in the meeting.
