Deputy Commissioner holds meeting with various departments on bird control measures around Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport.

S.A.S.Nagar, June 09, 2024: Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal held a meeting with airport officials and concerned departments like GMADA, Municipal Corporation and Rural Development and Panchayats at the District Administrative Complex to make the airspace around Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport bird free.

Giving more details, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Komal Mittal said that various preventive measures were discussed to prevent any untoward incident during 'landing' and 'take off' due to the presence of birds in the airspace of Chandigarh Airport and it was decided to implement them immediately with the help of concerned departments.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal informed that the airport authorities have brought to the notice of the district administration that raw meat and other waste easily available at meat shops is a major reason for the influx of birds in the area. Similarly, the concerned officials were asked to pay immediate attention to the shifting of garbage dumps around Kambala, Jagatpur and Sector 74.
The concerned officials informed that action is underway regarding this work and it will be completed soon. They directed the drainage department to complete the cleaning of drains of Kambala, Jagatpur as soon as possible. Similarly, the use of laser lights by nearby marriage palaces/hotels at night can also prove to be dangerous for pilots during landing.
Therefore, they were also asked to immediately issue orders banning the use of laser lights within 200 meters of the airport. Apart from this, it was also brought to the notice of the airport officials during the meeting that due to the presence of labor camps near the high grounds around the Air Force Station near Zirakpur, it is necessary to verify these laborers for security reasons.
The deputy commissioner directed the concerned departments, GMADA, Municipal Corporation Mohali and Rural Development & Panchayat Department to take immediate action to take measures related to bird control to ensure safe landing and takeoff of flights from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport.
SDM Mohali Damandeep Kaur, Assistant Commissioner (G) Dr Ankita Kansal, SDM Derabassi Amit Gupta, DDPO Baljinder Singh Grewal, Tehsildar Mohali Robinjit Kaur and senior officers of other departments were also present in the meeting.
