
Excise Department launches war-like campaign against illicit liquor in Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur- In view of the recent unfortunate incident in Majitha area of Amritsar district, on the directions of the Punjab Government, the Excise Department, Hoshiarpur, in collaboration with the police and civil administration, is conducting large-scale raids in the district and recovering illicit liquor.

A war-like campaign against illicit liquor is being launched across the district under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner (Excise) Hanuwant Singh, Excise Officer Navjot Bharti (Hoshiarpur-1) and Preet Bhupinder Singh (Hoshiarpur-2). More than 50 raids have been carried out by the Excise Department in the last one week after the Majitha incident.
Giving information, Assistant Commissioner (Excise) Hanuwant Singh said that in the last one week, 13 FIRs were registered, 11 arrests were made and 152 bottles, 25000 kg of lahan and 101.25 liters of illicit liquor were recovered. He said that a large quantity of liquor has been recovered from Mand areas.
He said that a large quantity of lahan has been recovered from Mand areas. This includes 40 tarpaulins, 10 drums and other equipment used for illicit liquor. The Assistant Commissioner said that the Excise Department is continuously setting up checkpoints in the district and campaigns are being run to make people aware. The officials are going from village to village to inform people about the ill effects of illicit liquor and are appealing to the citizens to cooperate in this campaign.
He said that recently, a joint flag march was taken out by the Excise Department and the Police in Sundar Nagar and Balbir Colony (Hoshiarpur city). During this, citizens were encouraged to report illegal liquor. He said that if anyone has information about any person involved in the illegal liquor business, he should immediately inform the Excise Department. For this purpose, the mobile numbers of the officers are being shared with the general public. It is noteworthy that Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain has directed all the concerned officers (SDMs, BDPOs, Police Station Heads etc.) to extend full cooperation in the campaign. SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik has also directed the departmental officers for coordination and cooperation. He said that the Excise Department is making every possible effort to prevent any untoward incident and protect the government revenue.
