Chandigarh- It is a humble request that being an aware citizen of Chandigarh Sector 56, I want to draw your attention towards the increasing criminal incidents and illegal activities in my area day by day. In the last few months, the feeling of insecurity is increasing in our area. Especially at night, incidents of robbery, activities of anti-social elements, and open illegal drug trade have become a matter of serious concern for the general public.
As soon as the evening falls, the streets of Sector 56 become a gathering place for anti-social elements. These people not only consume alcohol and other intoxicants, but also commit crimes like indecency with passersby and sometimes robbery. Every day news of these incidents is being published in local newspapers, but the sad situation is that the local police administration seems to be almost negligible. Neither there is regular patrolling in the area nor the existing law and order is being strictly enforced.
This situation is not only creating fear in the minds of the general public but has also created an unsafe environment especially for children, women and the elderly. We all citizens want to know how long will the administration remain silent on such increasing incidents and why no concrete steps are being taken?

We appeal for immediate action on the following suggestions in your august presence:
Installation of CCTV cameras at all main crossings, lanes and public places of Sector 56.
Ensure regularity and effectiveness of police patrolling during night time.
Special campaigns should be conducted on the sale and consumption of illegal drugs and strict action should be taken against the culprits.
Communicate with the local residents and listen to and understand their concerns regarding security.
We trust that you will give priority to this serious issue under your constitutional obligations and regional representation and provide necessary instructions to the administration so that the citizens can lead a safe and peaceful life.
