It shall be ensured that no citizen is deprived of access to justice due to economic reasons or any other such deficiency. Punjab Legal Services Authority was constituted under this Act on 04-10-1996. The Hon'ble Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court is the Patron-in-Chief of this authority. Authority units have been formed at the district and sub-divisional levels to implement the entire program at the lower level. The authority provides free legal aid to the poor and weaker sections of the society to protect their legal rights.

Who are eligible for free legal aid?
 Members of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, victims of major calamities/natural calamities, victims of bonded labour, industrial workers, women/children, migrants, mentally ill/disabled persons and persons whose annual family income is less than Rs.3,00,000/- Howe is entitled to free legal services.

How to get free legal aid?
 For availing free legal aid one can submit the prescribed proforma issued by the authority free of charge and submit it to the concerned Hon'ble Court, Front Office of the Authority, Legal Aid Clinic, Legal Literacy Club Pass. Apart from this, the authority has also issued toll free number 1968 to provide free legal aid.

What is included in free legal aid?
 In free legal aid services of lawyers are provided free of cost for fighting cases or legal advice. Fees for lawyers' services, court fees, subpoena fees, expenses of witnesses and other related miscellaneous expenses are paid by the authority.
