Ludhiana 20 May, 2025- Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized an awareness camp to educate about livestock infertility at village Qila Raipur. It was sponsored by ICAR under the Farmer FIRST project.
In order to combat the problem of infertility among the productive dairy animals of the village, the camp was planned under the guidance of Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education-cum-Nodal Officer of Farmer FIRST Project and Dr. Parminder Singh, Principal Investigator (PI) of the Project. The camp was coordinated by Dr. Rajesh Kasrija, Dr. Bilawal Singh, and Dr. Parteek Singh Dhaliwal, CoPIs. In the camp dairy animals including cattle and buffaloes were treated for infertility.
Dr. Rajesh and Dr. Bilawal Singh examined and treated the infertile dairy animals. Among the various causes of infertility, anestrous, follicular cyst, silent heat etc. were detected during the examination of the animals and the treatment was provided accordingly.
Creating awareness regarding the causes of infertility, Dr. Rajesh highlighted the economic losses in terms of overall productive life of the dairy animals, decrease in milk production, and delay in calving etc. due to infertility. Dr. Bilawal Singh informed the dairy farmers about the next protocol to be followed as a part of treatment along with awareness regarding the causes of infertility.
Dr. Parteek Singh distributed mineral mixture among the dairy farmers highlighting its importance in daily feeding of the animals for the enhancement of their overall productivity and reproductive health. Good number of farmers participated in the camp and showed their overall satisfaction.
