Addressing the meeting, District President Surinder Singh Bains and State Committee member Bhupinder Singh Waraich said that free trade agreements have been made with America and England under the guise of war.
Indian government has bowed down to imperialist countries. In fact, the Modi government has opened the doors for open loot of farmers. Similarly, the Punjab government of Aam Aadmi Party has also failed to protect the interests of farmers and is following in the footsteps of the Center.
He said that farmers will have to organize to oppose the coming corporate attacks. The delegates were also addressed by district vice president Sohan Singh Bawa, district president of women wing Surjit Kaur Utal, Nawanshahr area presidents Kulvir Singh Shahpur, Surinder Singh Mehrampur and Krishan Lal Begowal, Manjit Kaur Alachour. Later, a 15-member area committee was elected.
Surinder Singh Mehrampur was elected president, Jivan Das Begowal secretary, Balbir Singh Skohpur finance secretary, Bahadur Singh Dharamkot assistant secretary and Karnail Singh Urapar vice president. Kashmir Singh Begowal, Harjit Singh Phambra, Amrik Singh Phambra, Amarjit Singh Dharamkot, Satnam Singh Urapar, Avtar Singh Skohpur, Avtar Singh Mehrampur, Manjit Kaur Begowal and Kamlesh Kaur Urapar were elected members.
The newly elected committee vowed to fight for farmers issues and decided to join in large numbers in the demonstration to be held by the Samyukta Morcha against government oppression on May 26.
