Amritsar, May 14 - After the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shah returned home today via the Attari Wagah border. Shah's return has taken place after 21 days. Pakistani Rangers handed over Shah to the BSF at around 10:30 am today.
A BSF spokesperson said that the handover ceremony of Shah to Indian authorities took place peacefully and as per established norms. Pakistan Rangers had arrested Shah near the Indo-Pak international border in Ferozepur district on April 23, a day after the Pahalgam terror attack.
BSF jawan PK Shah had mistakenly crossed the border from the Ferozepur border area and entered Pakistani territory on April 23. He was later arrested by Pakistani Rangers. Pakistan was trying to avoid releasing him before the ceasefire.
BSF officials said that they were holding continuous flag meetings with Pakistani Rangers in this matter. Apart from this, efforts were also made through other means for his return, which have been successful. He was sent back to India today via Attari-Wagah border. This BSF jawan was posted on farmer duty at Jaloke BOP in Ferozepur border area. He was posted here with his unit some time ago. He was not fully familiar with this area.
