Patiala, February 25- Under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, nutrition kits were distributed to 35 patients taking TB medicines in the office of Civil Surgeon Patiala in collaboration with Reach Sanstha and Hindustan Unilever. On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Patiala Dr. Jagpalinder Singh said that 56 percent of the notified TB patients are victims of malnutrition.
He said that the Health Department provides assistance of Rs 1000 to every TB patient for good food. All tests and screening of every patient are done free of cost and TB medicines are given free of cost in all government health institutions.
District Program Coordinator of Reach NGO, Ghalib Hussain said that nutrition kits are being distributed to those TB patients who have low BMI, who are infected with HIV and are suffering from MDR. He said that as long as the patient is on medication, he will be given food baskets.
