Hoshiarpur- In view of the tension on the border, the district administration held an important meeting of police and civil administration officials and civil security committee in the district administrative complex today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain to strengthen civil security preparations as per the instructions of the Government of India and Punjab.

In this meeting held in the presence of SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik, while blackout and mock drill in the district were discussed, preparations to be made in emergency situation were also discussed. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that in view of the instructions of the Home Ministry and Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defense and Home Guard, mock drills will be conducted in the coming days.
She said that these exercises are planned in advance, so there is no need to fear, because during this time all the essential services will remain operational and the machinery of the district administration will be fully operational to assist the citizens during the exercise. The Deputy Commissioner said that its objective is to control emergency situations and simulate such situations in a safe manner so that both the citizens and the administration are better prepared to deal effectively in a real crisis.
Therefore, no kind of rumour should be spread and neither should any kind of rumours be believed on social media or in any other form. He said that in this regard, the district administration has set up a 24-hour district level control room, whose number is 01882-220412. He said that the district residents can contact this control room for any kind of information. He said that if any other information is available, the district administration will share it with the people.
He said that the air raid sirens used to alert the public during the mock drill are being tested and their effectiveness is being evaluated. Similarly, crash blackout exercises are being conducted to simulate a war-like situation. During this, testing of fire fighting equipment, evacuation of injured and wounded trapped in bunkers, buildings and other confined and dangerous places from the affected area, setting up of temporary hospitals and other necessary guidelines will be followed.
Evaluation of hotlines and radio communication links between civil and police authorities and the Indian Air Force, simulation of evacuation, lockdown and emergency responses including firefighting and first aid, functioning of control rooms and shadow control centres are being tested. He advised people to stay away from the restricted areas cordoned off for this exercise. Remain calm and do not panic if the siren sounds or the lights go off.
