Hoshiarpur- A strong protest was held today near the city bus stand under the leadership of Punjab Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh against the interference of Haryana and Central Government in Punjab's water and the neglect of the state's interests by BBMB. On this occasion, anger was expressed by burning the effigy of the Central Government.
Dr. Ravjot Singh said that Punjab does not have even a drop of extra water to give to any other state. He said that only Punjab has the right over Punjab's water and the attempt to forcibly give it to other states is wrong on both legal and moral levels.
He accused the Central Government of plotting to suppress the voice of Punjab and deprive the state of its constitutional rights through institutions like BBMB. He said that the BJP is not doing justice to Punjab through the Haryana and Central Governments, but is committing atrocities.
Dr Ravjot Singh raised the question that when the water level in Bhakra and Pong dams is already very low, how can Haryana's demand of 8500 cusecs of additional water be met? He said that Punjab is already suffering from the shortage of clean drinking water and due to the reduced flow of water in the rivers, the problem of irrigation and drinking water is becoming serious.
He warned that the pressure being exerted on Punjab by the BJP central government to illegally give water to Haryana is a direct attack on the rights of the states and will never be tolerated.
