Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the first two-day National Conference on Urban Local Bodies.

Chandigarh, July 3 – Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that urban institutions have a key role in strengthening democracy. Urban institutions will have to fulfill their responsibility by keeping in mind the Vision-2047 of a developed India with new thinking, strong guidance and efficient behavior of public representatives. He said that everyone should take a resolution that my corporation, my council and my municipality and my city are among the cleanest and most beautiful cities in the world.

The Lok Sabha Speaker was addressing the public representatives from across the country at the first two-day National Conference on Strengthening Autonomous Democracy and Role of Urban Local Bodies in Nation Building organized at the ICAT-2 Complex Auditorium in Manesar on Thursday.
The chief guest of the conference, Shri Om Birla, formally inaugurated the two-day national conference by lighting the lamp. On this occasion, Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Shri Harvinder Kalyan, Deputy Speaker Dr. Krishan Lal Midda, Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh, Urban Government Minister Vipul Goyal and Secretary General of the Lok Sabha Secretariat Shri Utpal Kumar Singh were also present.
The Lok Sabha Speaker said that if the urban institutional public representatives take steps with a positive outlook, they can definitely energize the urban sector. He said that the urban institutions, working as the smallest unit of the nation, are moving forward strongly in giving a new direction to the country. During these two days, representatives of urban institutions in the interest of the nation will participate in realizing the dream of a new India, a developed India, through discussion, dialogue, innovation and sharing their skillful experiences.
He said that urban institutions have a key role in nation building where people's representatives will solve the problems of the people at the grassroots level. He said that along with Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha, urban and Panchayat institutions become a powerful medium of connecting with the common man. He said that local self-governance is a strong pillar of democracy. The role of urban institutions is most important in taking democracy to the roots.
