New Delhi- A bill to streamline various services related to immigration and foreigners was introduced in the Lok Sabha today, which includes provisions on the entry, exit and stay of foreigners in the country. The opposition has termed this bill as a violation of the Constitution.
Rejecting suggestions that Parliament lacks legislative capacity to bring the Immigration and Foreigners Bill-2025 (Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025), Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said that the Central Government has all the powers under the Union List to bring a law on this subject. Rai said that although tourists are welcome in India, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure peace and security in the country.
Opposing the bill at the initial stage, Congress MP Manish Tewari said that this bill violates several articles of the Constitution and various laws. He said that the bill violates the principle of fundamental rights and the government can use the provisions of the proposed law to deny entry to those who do not agree with the ideology of the current ruling party. TMC leader Saugata Roy said that the proposed law can stop the influx of skilled people from outside in various fields.
