SAS Nagar, April 14- Mohali Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi and former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Paramjit Singh Randhawa condemned the FIR lodged against Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa, saying that this is a conspiracy by the Aam Aadmi Party to divert attention from the main issues and politics of fear.
They said that taking such a step on the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, which is a direct attack on freedom of expression, is highly condemnable. They appealed that this FIR be cancelled immediately. Bedi and Randhawa said that what Bajwa said has already appeared in the media, including the statement of the police officer.
They said that at such a critical juncture when the basic concerns of the people (such as the appalling law and order situation, atmosphere of fear among traders and panic among the common people) need to be addressed, the government is trying to divert people's attention by registering cases against the opposition.
Congress leaders said that their party is not going to be intimidated by such threats and will not back down from raising its voice in the interest of the people. They demanded that the Punjab government should focus on restoring law and order and building confidence among the people instead of targeting the opposition.
