An Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was martyred in an encounter with terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Akhnoor sector, officials said on Saturday, but their infiltration bid was foiled.
They said that the Army personnel, seeing the movement of a group of heavily armed terrorists near a river in the forest in Keri Bhattal area late on Friday night, gave a challenge, which led to fierce firing that continued till late. Meanwhile, a JCO succumbed to serious injuries in the encounter. A search operation was underway till the last reports were received.
In another encounter, army officials said that two terrorists were killed in an operation in the snow-covered area of ??Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources said that the slain terrorists were affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed organization and included a top commander, Saifullah.
