The Chief Instructor of First Aid, Safety, Health, Awareness Mission of Patiala and Disaster Management, Civil Defence, First Aid, Fire Safety Instructor of Government of India, Mr. Kaka Ram Verma has sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Disaster Management Minister, Chief Secretary and Deputy Commissioner of the district and requested that hundreds of people are dying every day due to natural and man-made disasters in Punjab, because people were never prepared for rescue and relief by getting them trained, practiced, mock drills on natural and man-made disasters during childhood, youth and employment.
Mr. Kaka Ram Verma said that he has given training on first aid CPR fire safety in educational institutions, medical college students, factories, hospitals etc. and training is being given in some educational institutions and hospitals to save precious lives and property during fire, gas leak, electrical short circuit, 10 types of teams have been formed and mock drills have also been conducted. Kaka Ram Verma said that fire starts from a small spark which students can extinguish on the spot, if they are trained they can extinguish fire by using a bucket of water, soil or by starving the fire.
Fire can also be controlled by using fire extinguisher cylinder on the spot. But sadly 90 percent of students, teachers, police factory workers, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets are never given training about types of fire, use of fire extinguishers, whereas in every institution, building, vehicle, business establishment ABCDE types of fuels are available to set fire.
People including families are living on bombs, missiles as there is electricity, gases, petrol, oil, cloth, plastic, wood, paper tyres, tubes everywhere, short circuits are happening due to mistakes. Gases are leaking. Deaths are happening within minutes due to suffocation due to smoke. People are not trained about first aid, CPR, ventilator, artificial respiration, rescue transport of injured, use of helpline numbers.
Kaka Ram Verma said that on 24/11/2024, Deputy Commissioner Patiala has sent a letter to Registrar Punjabi University, District Education Officer Secondary and Primary and Civil Surgeon Patiala and ordered that they should organize disaster management, civil defense, first aid, fire safety training programs in their respective areas on priority basis, so that students, teachers, staff and through them, parents are prepared to save precious lives and property during any emergency.
